EFB vs AGM vs standard car battery: which does your car need?

Battery Rescue SG · 26 Oct 2026

QUICK ANSWER
If your car has start-stop (the engine switches off at traffic lights), it needs the same type it came with: EFB or AGM. Cars without start-stop use a standard battery. Fitting a standard battery to a start-stop car shortens its life and can upset the car's charging system.

Standard (flooded / maintenance-free)

Most Japanese and Korean cars without start-stop. Delkor examples: NS40ZL $99.90 walk-in, NS60L $110.80.

EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery)

Many start-stop Japanese cars and some European cars. Delkor examples: EFB Q85L $208.90, EFB S95 $252.50 walk-in.

AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat)

Most European cars with start-stop and many premium models. One battery maker's guide says plainly for Audi and BMW: use only AGM where AGM was fitted from the factory. Delkor examples: AGM LN3 $317.90, AGM LN4 $394.20 walk-in.
